August

Jennospot 76  August

Cripes, it's August already. Did yew know that the month got its noime from that ol' Roman Emperor Augustus? It weren't because it were the month when 'ee were born. Naw, it were because 'ee were kinda lucky. The month of July, wot were named after Julius Caesar, 'ad thirtyone days, whereas August only 'ad thirty. Well, because the calendar wot good ol' Julius invented didn't work out real good, they 'ad ter add a few more days, so August got one more, an' Augustus were roight chuffed about that, 'cos then 'ee weren't in any way inferior ter Julius. See wot Oi mean?

Wouldn't it be somefink if'n they renamed June ter be Jenno? Cripes, stripes, an' little green tomaters! Still an' all, Oi don't reckon as 'ow it's likely; d'yew? Pity, ain't it…?

Any'ow, where was Oi…? Oh yeah, it's already August. D'yew know wot the poet R. Combe Miller wrote about August? O' course, 'ee's entitled ter 'is opinion, 'cos it ain't always loike wot 'ee wrote, even so it's kinda pretty:

"Fairest of months! ripe Summer's Queen

The hey-day of the year

With robes that gleam with sunny sheen,

Sweet August doth appear."

Yeah well, it's rainin' a bit at the moment. Even so, Oi reckon the sunny sheen'll gleam in a little while, an' then we c'n make 'ay; Oi 'ope. Funny the way 'ee spells it "hey"; or does 'ee mean somefink different? Yew can't always tell wiv poets, they sometimes wrap stuff up in words wot c'd mean ev'ryfink or nuffink; just as the fancy suits yew. Peter St John sometimes does it an' all. An' if'n Oi ask 'im wot 'ee means, 'ee turns it around an' asks me wot Oi fink it means. Cripes, poets c'n be real exasperatin' sometimes.

By the way, ain't "exasperatin'" a super word? D'yew loike it an' all?

Any'ow, that's enough about that, 'cos ovverwise Oi moight start exasperatin' yew, an' Oi don't wanna do that, do Oi?. All wot Oi want ter do is ter wish yew a real 'appy month o' August, wiv lotsa hey-days…

Luv from Jenno.

There ain't nuffink about August in moi e-books, "Jenno's Widdlin'ton", an' "Jenno's Widdlin'ton II" 'cos wot Oi write c'd 'appen at any toime; or p'raps not at all. Any'ow, they don't cost nuffink, so that's all roight: http://www.smashwords.com/b/128813 an' http://www.smashwords.com/b/166979

Peter St John don't mention August on 'is website neither (http://www.peterstjohn.net/index.htm) even so, a lot of the action in Widdlin'ton 'appens in the summer 'olidays, wot is winter in Australia, but Oi reckon as 'ow the Aussies won't mind. If yew're an' Aussie, yew c'n write an' tell me… if'n yew loike.
